Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the headliner assembly. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 299112  Size: SH
  3. Remove the topcover listing strips (1) from the No. 2 bow, and the No. 3 bow.

  4. Object Number: 299248  Size: SH
  5. Remove the screws (3) which retain the right and left top cover retainers.
  6. Remove the right and left topcover retainers (4).
  7. Remove the screws (3) which retain the center topcover retainer.
  8. Remove the center topcover retainer (2)

  9. Object Number: 299112  Size: SH
  10. Remove the staple (3) from the No. 1 bow front corner.

  11. Object Number: 299248  Size: SH
  12. Use a grease pencil in order to mark the front edge of the No. 1 bow (6) on the topcover material.
  13. Peel the topcover from the No. 1 bow (6) in order to break the cement bond.

  14. Object Number: 299112  Size: SH
  15. Remove the screw (5) that retains the side retainer cable (7) to the rear rail.
  16. Caution: Eye protection must be worn when drilling rivets to reduce the chance of personal injury.

  17. Remove the rivet (4) that retains the side retainer cable (7) to the front rail:
  18. 11.1. Punch out the center pin.
    11.2. Drill out the rivet.
  19. Peel the topcover (2) from the rear rail.
  20. Remove the back belt molding. Refer to Back Belt Outer Molding Replacement .
  21. Remove the quarter panel belt outer molding. Refer to Quarter Panel Belt Outer Molding Replacement .
  22. Remove the rear spoiler on Pontiac vehicles only. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement in Body Rear End.
  23. Remove the staples (3) that retain the topcover to the tackstrip.
  24. Caution: Eye protection must be worn when drilling rivets to reduce the chance of personal injury.

  25. Remove the rivets (4) that retain the topcover (2) to the body flange:
  26. 17.1. Punch out the center pin.
    17.2. Drill out the rivet.

  27. Remove the velcro strip (6), and the staples (5) which retain the rear stay pad to the No. (4) bow (3):
  28. Important: Remove only enough staples from the topcover listing strip in order to access the side stay pad.

  29. Remove the staples (5) that retain the topcover listing strip to the No. 4 bow (3).
  30. Latch the power folding top.
  31. Use a grease pencil in order to mark the location of the side stay pad (7) inner edge to all 4 bows.
  32. Mark the front and the rear edge locations of all 4 bows on the side stay pad (7).
  33. Remove the staples (5) that retain the side stay pad (7) to all 4 bows.
  34. Remove the side stay pad (7) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stay pad.
  2. 1.1. Position the old side stay pad (7) over the new side stay pad.
    1.2. Transfer the bow location marks to the new side stay pad (7).

    Important: Pulling the side stay pads too tight may affect the power folding top pull-down and latching effort.

  3. Install the side stay pad (7) to all 4 bows.
  4. Align the side stay pad to the marks for all 4 bows.
  5. Use stainless steel staples (5) in order to staple the side stay pad (7) to all 4 bows.
  6. Use stainless steel staples (5) in order to staple the topcover to the No. 4 bow (3).
  7. Use stainless steel staples (5) in order to staple the rear stay pad to the No. 4 bow (3).
  8. Install the velcro strip (6) over the stay pad staples on the No. 4 bow (6).

  10. Use rivets (5) in order to secure the side retainer cable (7) to the front rails.
  11. Apply adhesive to the topcover material and the rear rail.
  12. Install the topcover (2) to the rear rail.
  13. Start at the bottom and work upward with the topcover welt turned slightly inward at the rear rail.

  14. Add butyl tape to the quarter belt tackstrip as required in order to ensure sealing of the topcover sail panels.
  15. Use stainless steel staples (3) in order to install the topcover (2) to the tackstrip.
  16. Use the rivets (4) in order to secure the topcover (2) to the body flange.
  17. Install the headliner. Refer to Folding Top Headlining Trim Panel Replacement .
  18. Install the rear rail weatherstrip retainer and the weatherstrip. Refer to Folding Top Weatherstrip Retainer Replacement and Folding Top Weatherstrip Replacement .
  19. Install the rear spoiler on Pontiac vehicles only. Refer to Rear Spoiler Replacement in Body Rear End.
  20. Install the back belt molding. Refer to Back Belt Outer Molding Replacement .
  21. Install the quarter panel belt outer molding. Refer to Quarter Panel Belt Outer Molding Replacement .

  22. Object Number: 299248  Size: SH
  23. Use adhesive in order to install the topcover to the No. 1 bow (6).
  24. Pull the topcover over the No. 1 bow to the reference marks with the folding end flap under first.

  25. Use 1 stainless steel staple (3) per side in order to staple the topcover material and flap to the No. 1 bow.

  26. Object Number: 299248  Size: SH
  27. Install the topcover center retainer (2).
  28. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  29. Install the topcover center retainer screws.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  31. Install the topcover right or left retainer (4).
  32. Install the topcover right or left retainer screws.
  33. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  34. Use 2-sided tape in order to install the topcover listing strips (1) to the No. 2 bow, and the No. 3 bow.
  35. Perform the following actions:
  36. • Cycle the power folding top.
    • Inspect the power folding top for proper operation and appearance.
