Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation
of the steering system.
- Inspect the easily accessible or visible steering components for
obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
- Verify the tires are the proper size. Refer to the tire placard
on the IP compartment door.
If the tires are not the proper size, replace the tires. Refer to
Tire Mounting and Dismounting
in Tires and Wheels.
- Measure the tire pressure. Adjust the tire pressure if necessary.
Refer to the tire placard on the IP compartment door.
- Verify the power steering fluid level is correct. Verify the power
steering fluid is free from foam or contamination. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
in Power Steering.
Intermittent Conditions
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent
conditions. Refer to
Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections
in Wiring Systems.
