Power/Volume/Recall Knob

The power/Volume/Recall knob does the following:

Tapes

Your cassette tape player is built to work best with tapes that are 30 or 45 minutes long on each side. Longer playing tapes are so thin that they may not work well in this player.

The tape player will play either standard or metal tapes. Metal tape sensing is automatic. "MTL" will appear on the display when a metal tape or high bias tape is playing.

Dolby B® Noise Reduction

Press the Noise Reduction button when a tape is being played to remove background hiss noise from the tape player. The Noise Reduction button also selects station preset 5 when the radio is playing. The Dolby B® Noise Reduction does not remove background hiss noise from a radio station.

Tape Player Operation

The shorter side of the tape cartridge goes in first with the tape opening toward the right side. The radio needs to be "ON" when inserting a tape. If you hear nothing or just gargled sound, the tape may not be in squarely. Push the eject (EJCT) button to remove the tape and start over. Once the tape is playing, use the Volume, Balance, Fade, Bass and Treble knobs just as you do for the radio. Press (EJCT) to remove the tape.

To move ahead in the tape, press the forward (FWD) button. To stop moving forward, push FWD again. To move to the end of the tape, push the FWD button and the player will play the other side of the tape when the end of the current side is reached. The FWD button also selects station preset 3 when the radio is playing.

To move backward in the tape or to rewind back to the beginning of the tape, use the reverse (REV) button in the same way as the forward button. The REV button also selects station preset 1 when the radio is playing.

The arrows on the display show which side of the tape is playing. The up arrow refers to the top side of the tape. The down arrow refers to the bottom side of the tape. To change the side of the tape, press the program (PRG) button. The PRG button also selects station preset 2 when the radio is playing.

Tape Head Cleaning

After 30 hours of tape playing, the display will tell you to "CLEAN" the cassette tape head. This is to remind you that regular cleaning of the tape player will help prevent the buildup of oxides and other contaminates that can cause reduced sound quality or damage to your tapes or player. Proper tape head cleaning should be done with a wiping action non-abrasive cleaner cassette. To properly clean your tape player, you should follow the directions on the cleaning cassette. If the cleaner cartridge ejects within a few second after it is inserted, it will need to be reinserted 3 to 5 times to completely clean the tape head.

After cleaning your cassette tape player head, the CLEAN indicator can be reset by the following sequence:

    • Eject the cassette cartridge and return to radio play mode.
    • Press and hole the EJCT button for 5 seconds.
