SQUEAKS & RATTLES COMING FROM TOP OR TOP CORNERS

SUBJECT: Squeaks and Rattles Coming from Top or Top Corners of Instrument Panel (Check and Repair or Replace Retainers on I/P Upper Trim Panel Outer Corner Filler Assemblies) -------------------------------------------------------------------

1995 Saturn Sedans and Wagons, and 1995-1996 Saturn Coupes

CONDITION:

Squeaks and rattles may be coming from the top or top corners of the instrument panel.

CAUSE:

------

The squeaks and rattles in the top or top corners of the instrument panel may be caused by I/P upper trim pad retainers (Dual-Lock) losing their adhesion to either the modular dash assembly or the I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assemblies. Also, the retainers may disengage due to high humidity or heat.

CORRECTION:

Refer to the procedure in this bulletin to remove and replace the I/P upper trim panel outer corner assemblies, and replace any retainers and/or I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assemblies, if necessary.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assembly, on the side of the vehicle where the squeak or rattle is coming from, by carefully lifting up at the I/P upper trim pad retainers (Dual-Lock) locations.

2. Check retainers to verify that they are securely attached to the modular dash assembly.

3. If any of the retainers are not securely attached to the modular dash assembly:

a. Completely remove retainers that are not securely attached to the modular dash assembly.

b. Thoroughly clean area with Isopropyl alcohol.

c. Replace retainers with new retainers P/N 21040478 .

IMPORTANT: Make sure to apply pressure to all four corners and the center of the retainers to ensure proper adhesion to the modular dash assembly.

4. Check retainers to verify that they are securely attached to I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assembly.

a. If the retainers are not securely attached to the I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assembly, the I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assembly must be replaced, since the retainers are sonic welded to the assembly. After new I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assembly is obtained, proceed to next step.

b. If the retainers are securely attached, proceed to next step.

5. Install I/P upper trim panel outer corner filler assembly and press firmly above where the I/P upper trim pad retainers are, to securely attach to modular dash assembly.
