Door Lock do not Operate with Key. Saturn SL1/SC1/SW1 1996

Door Locks do not Operate with Key -- Install Washer and Replace the Front Side Door Lock Actuator Rod Retainer

Models:

1996 Saturn Sedans built before and including VIN TZ148254

The door lock cylinder is inoperative when trying to lock or unlock with a key.

The front side door lock actuator rod retainer does not hold the door lock cylinder rod correctly.

Replace the front side door lock actuator rod retainer and add a washer according to the procedure in this bulletin.

remove the inner door panel. Refer to Front Door Trim Panel -- Sedan/Wagon in the Doors section of the 1996 Body/Repair Service Manual.
Remove the door lock cylinder rod and the front side door lock actuator rod retainer from the door lock cylinder pawl. Discard the front side door lock actuator rod retainer.
Hold washer P/N 21170045 over the door lock cylinder pawl, aligning the holes in the washer with the hole in the door lock cylinder pawl.
Insert a new front side door lock actuator rod retainer P/N 21098972 -- right side, P/N 21093813 -- left side, into the holes in the door lock cylinder pawl and washer.
Install the door lock cylinder rod into the front side door lock actuator rod retainer, door lock cylinder pawl and washer, then engage the door lock cylinder rod to front side door lock actuator retainer.
Inspect for proper operation of the door lock with a key.
Install the door inner door panel. Refer to Front Door Trim Panel -- Sedan/wagon in the Doors section of the 1996 Body/Repair Service Manual.
