Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • The door locks use the fork bolt lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker. Rotate the lock knob rearward in order to unlock the door from the inside.
   • Replace the door lock if it is faulty. Do not attempt to repair.

  1. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 164522  Size: SH
  3. Remove the rear door water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  4. Use side cutters in order to remove the lock-to-rod clip which secures the rear door outside handle rod to the rear door lock.
  5. Discard the lock-to-rod clip.
  6. Remove the rods from the rear door inside handle.

  8. Remove the rods from the lock-to-rod clip.

  9. Object Number: 166397  Size: SH
  10. Remove the door lock screws (1, 2, 3) which secure the rear door lock to the rear door.

  11. Object Number: 166395  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the rear door lock.

  13. Object Number: 651900  Size: SH
  14. Remove the rear door lock with the inside handle rods attached.
  15. Remove the rear door handle rods from the rear door lock.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 651900  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear door inside handle rods to the rear door lock.
  2. Install the new lock-to-rod clip to the rear door lock.

  3. Object Number: 166395  Size: SH
  4. Install the electrical connectors to the rear door lock.
  5. Align the rear door lock to the rear door with the inside handle rods and electrical connectors attached.

  6. Object Number: 166397  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the door lock screws (1, 2, 3) which secure rear door lock to the rear door .
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws in the sequence shown (1, 2, 3) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Align the rear door outside handle rod to the new rod-to-lock clip, eliminating the rear door outside handle free play.
  10. Apply pressure to the rod-to-lock clip until fully seated.

  12. Install the lock cylinder rod to the rear door outside handle.

  13. Object Number: 164522  Size: SH
  14. Install the inside handle rods to the inside door handle.

  15. Object Number: 164519  Size: SH
  16. Install the inside handle rods into the rod-to-lock clip.
  17. Inspect the system for proper operation.
  18. Install the rear door water deflector. Refer to Rear Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  19. Install the rear door trim panel. Refer to Rear Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
