J 38778 Door Trim Pad Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear door power window switch. Refer to Rear Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 164587  Size: SH
  3. Remove the inside door handle bezel.
  4. Remove the door trim panel TORX® bolts located under the pull handle and under the switch plate retainer.
  5. Starting at the lower rear, use J 38778 to remove the retaining clips which secure the door trim panel to the door.
  6. Remove the door trim panel from the door.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 164587  Size: SH

    Important: Discard the old door trim panel retainers and replace with new retainers before installing the door trim panel.

  1. Install new trim panel retainers to the rear door trim panel.
  2. Align the door trim panel retainers to the door.
  3. Apply pressure to the door trim panel at the retainer locations until fully seated.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the TORX® bolts to the door trim panel.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the TORX® bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Install the inside door handle bezel.
  8. Install the power window switch. Refer to Rear Side Door Window Switch Replacement .
