Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • The door locks use the fork bolt lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker. Rotate the lock knob rearward in order to unlock the door from the inside.
   • Replace the door lock if it is faulty. Do not attempt to repair.

  1. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the front door water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  3. Remove the rods from the front door inside handle.
  4. Use side cutters in order to remove the lock-to-rod clip which secures the front door outside handle rod to the front door lock.
  5. Discard the lock-to-rod clip.

  7. Disconnect the front outside door lock cylinder rod.

  9. Remove the rods from the plastic door clip.

  11. Remove the screws (1, 2, 3) which secure the front door lock to the front door.

  13. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the front door lock.

  14. Object Number: 651900  Size: SH
  15. Remove the front door lock with the inside handle rods attached, from the front door.
  16. Remove the front door handle rods from the front door lock.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the front door inside handle rods to the front door lock.
  2. Install the new lock-to-rod clip to the front door lock.

  3. Object Number: 166395  Size: SH
  4. Install the electrical connectors to the front door lock.

  5. Object Number: 164514  Size: SH
  6. Align the front door lock to the front door with the inside handle rods and electrical connectors attached.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the screws (1, 2, 3) which secure the front door lock to the front door.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the screws in the sequence shown (1, 2, 3) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Align the front door outside handle rod to the new rod-to-lock clip, eliminating the front door outside handle free play.
  11. Apply pressure to the rod-to-lock clip until fully seated.

  13. Install the lock cylinder rod to the front door outside handle.

  15. Install the inside handle rods to the inside door handle.

  16. Object Number: 164519  Size: SH
  17. Install the inside handle rods into the plastic door clip.
  18. Inspect the system for proper operation.
  19. Install the front door water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  20. Install the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
