J 38778 Trim Pad Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the inside front door handle bezel. Refer to Door Inside Handle Bezel Replacement .
  2. Remove the front door power mirror, window and door lock switch. Refer to Door Lock and Side Window and Outside Rearview Mirror Remote Control Switch Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 164359  Size: SH
  4. Remove the TORX® bolts located under the pull handle and behind the switch plate.
  5. Starting at the lower rear, use J 38778 to remove the retaining clips which secure the front door trim panel to the front door. Four clips are located below the inner belt molding and one clip is located below the top speaker.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the trim panel upper speaker.
  7. Remove the front door trim panel from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Discard the old door trim panel retainers and replace with new retainers before installing the door trim panel.

  1. Install new trim panel retainers to the front door trim panel.
  2. Connect the electrical connector to the trim panel upper speaker.
  3. Align the front door trim panel retainers to the front door.
  4. Apply pressure to the door trim panel at the retainer locations until fully seated.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the door trim panel TORX® bolts which secure the front door trim panel to the front door.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the TORX® bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Install the inside front door handle bezel. Refer to Door Inside Handle Bezel Replacement .
  9. Install the front door power mirror, window and door lock switchs. Refer to Door Lock and Side Window and Outside Rearview Mirror Remote Control Switch Replacement .
