  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Disconnect the antenna lead-in harness connector at the radio receiver.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the antenna lead-in harness connector and ground.

Is the resistance measured greater than the specified value?

0.15 ohms

  1. Leave the DMM connected.
  2. Wiggle the antenna lead-in harness connector at the radio antenna module.

Does the DMM indicate intermittent continuity?

Is the coax cable type RG-58 or RG-59?

Is the measured resistance less than the specified value?

0.2ohms

For RG-62 or RG-62M, is the measured resistance less than the specified value?

3.5ohms

While observing the DMM, wiggle the antenna coax.

Does the meter indicate intermittent continuity?

  1. Disconnect the radio antenna module harness connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Turn on the radio.
  4. Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the radio antenna module harness connector terminal A and terminal B.

Is the voltage measured within the specified range?

10-14 V

Inspect the radio antenna module and the coaxial cable interconnects for a poor connection or corrosion.

Are all connections clean, tight and free of corrosion?

Using a DMM, measure the voltage between the radio antenna module harness connector terminal A and ground.

Is the voltage measured within the specified range?

10-14 V

  1. Inspect the coaxial cable interconnects for a poor connection or corrosion.
  2. Repair or replace the antenna coaxial circuit as necessary. Refer to Radio Antenna Cable Extension Cable Replacement .
