Fuel Pump Strainer replacement for Steel Tank Only
Removal Procedure
Important: The fuel pump strainer is not serviceable on vehicles with plastic fuel
tanks.
- Relieve fuel system pressure.

- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Draining
.
- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Note the strainer position for future reference.
- Support the reservoir
with one hand.
- Use a screwdriver to pry the strainer ferrule off the reservoir.
- Discard the strainer.
Installation Procedure
- Support the reservoir
with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand twisting the strainer
into position.
- Install the fuel sender assembly. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Refill the fuel tank.
- Inspect for fuel leaks:
5.1. | Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for two seconds. |
5.2. | Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for ten seconds. |
5.3. | Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. |
5.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |
