Caution: Never drain or store fuel in an open container. Always use an approved fuel storage container in order to reduce the chance of fire or explosion.

Caution: Place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby before performing any on-vehicle service procedures. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury.

  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  3. Raise the vehicle and suitably support.
  4. Caution: Do not leave the disconnected fuel return pipe unattended in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak.

  5. Disconnect the fuel return pipe quick connect fitting. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  6. Use a hand operated pump device to drain as much fuel through the fuel return pipe as possible.
  7. Reconnect the fuel return pipe quick connect fitting. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
