Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement Rear Wheel Drive

J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  2. Object Number: 794577  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1).

  4. Object Number: 794579  Size: SH
  5. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod nut.
  6. Discard the nut.


    Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using the J 24319-B .

  8. Object Number: 794580  Size: SH

    Important: Note the number of complete turns necessary in order to remove the steering linkage outer tie rod.

  9. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering linkage inner tie rod.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 794580  Size: SH

    Important: Install the steering linkage outer tie rod the same number of complete turns as noted in the removal.

  1. Install the steering linkage outer tie rod to the steering linkage inner tie rod.

  2. Object Number: 794578  Size: SH
  3. Install the steering linkage outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install a NEW steering linkage outer tie rod nut.
  6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the steering linkage outer tie rod nut to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the steering linkage outer tie rod nut an additional 110 degrees.
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  8. Adjust the front toe. refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment.
  9. Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  2. Object Number: 687432  Size: SH
  3. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod nut.
  4. Discard the nut.


    Object Number: 643351  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using the J 24319-B .

  6. Object Number: 687434  Size: SH
  7. Loosen the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1).
  8. Important: Note the number of complete turns necessary in order to remove the steering linkage outer tie rod (2).

  9. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering linkage inner tie rod (3).
  10. Remove the steering linkage inner tie rod nut from the steering linkage outer tie rod.
  11. Discard the nut.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 687434  Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1) to the steering linkage outer tie rod (2).
  2. Important: Install the steering linkage outer tie rod the same number of complete turns as noted in the removal.

  3. Install the steering linkage outer tie rod to the steering linkage inner tie rod (3).

  4. Object Number: 687432  Size: SH
  5. Install the steering linkage outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install a NEW steering linkage outer tie rod nut.
  8. Tighten

    1. Tighten the steering linkage outer tie rod nut to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the steering linkage outer tie rod nut an additional 110 degrees.
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  11. Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).
