Removal Procedure
- Remove the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing nut and bolts.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing with the assembled
seal.
- Remove the gasket.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the crankshaft rear oil
seal housing.
- Clean the gasket surfaces.
- Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from the crankshaft rear oil
seal housing.
- Using the notches provided in the crankshaft rear oil seal housing,
pry the oil seal out.
Installation Procedure

Rear Oil Seal Installer
Important: Always use a new crankshaft rear oil seal and a new oil seal housing
gasket during the installation of the crankshaft rear oil seal housing.
- Install the new oil seal housing gasket and the crankshaft rear oil
seal housing on the studs.
- It is not necessary to use any type of sealant to hold the oil
seal housing gasket in place.
- Install the crankshaft rear oil seal housing nuts and bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft rear oil seal housing nuts and bolts to 15 N·m
(11 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Inspect the oil pan gasket for damage. Replace the gasket if necessary.
- Install the oil pan. Refer to

.
- Install the new crankshaft rear oil seal using the J 35621-A
.
- Install the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
