Throttle Body Assembly Replacement Replacement VIN K
Removal Procedure
- Drain the radiator coolant.
- Remove the air intake tube (1).
- Remove the fuel injection sight shield.
- Remove the IAC valve, TP sensor, and MAF sensor, electrical connectors.
- Remove the accelerator control and cruise control cables from
the throttle body lever and bracket.
- Remove the electrical harness retainer clip from the accelerator
control cable bracket.
- Remove the vacuum lines from the throttle body noting location.
- Remove the throttle body support bracket (VIN K only).
- Remove the nuts and bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manifold
using a wrench on the manifold side of the inserts to prevent the inserts
from rotating in the manifold casting.
Notice: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on
the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket
surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.
Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and
the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.
- Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body
assembly.
Remove the throttle body assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the new gasket, and new inserts and studs if necessary.
- Install the throttle body assembly.
- Install the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the throttle body retaining nuts and bolts to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the throttle body support bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the throttle body bolts to 11 N·m (8 lb ft).
- Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to accelerator cable
bracket at throttle body.
Important: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed
and wide open throttle. Refer to
Accelerator Controls
.
- Install the accelerator control and cruise control cables to the throttle
body lever.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal.
- Install the electrical harness retainer clip and harness to the
accelerator control cable bracket.
- Install the vacuum lines to throttle body as noted on removal.
- Install the air intake tube (1).
- Refill the radiator to replace the lost coolant.
- Install the fuel injection sight shield.
