Accelerator Controls Cable
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the accelerator pedal (2) lever.
- Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator cable (1)
through the bulkhead.
- Remove the accelerator control cable shield, if equipped.
- Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the retaining clip (2).
- Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the right slot on
top of washer bottle (3).
- Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.
- Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket (4).
Installation Procedure
Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within
50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can
be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference
and damage to the component.
- Install the accelerator cable (1) through the bulkhead.
- Install the snap retainer through the bulkhead.
- Install the accelerator cable (1) through the slot in the accelerator pedal
lever (2).
Important: Cable end fitting will snap into position and fit flush against accelerator
control pedal lever
- Assemble the dash panel insulator retainer to accelerator control
cable.
- Push (from the passenger compartment) the retainer over cable
lever end fitting and up cable until it snaps onto flange of cable dash fitting.
Note: Retainer will fit flush to dash mat.
Important: The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed
and wide open throttle.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal.
- Install the accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.
- Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket (4).
- Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the right slot on
top of washer bottle (3).
- Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the retaining clip
(2).
- Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages, And Console.
- Install the accelerator cable shield, if equipped.
Accelerator Controls Pedal
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel,
Gages, and Console.
- Remove the e-clip (3) from the pedal (2).
- Remove the plastic retainer from inside the pedal.
- Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the pedal by pulling
straight out and up towards the top of the pedal.
- Remove the accelerator pedal from the brake and accelerator pedal
assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the accelerator pedal (2) to the brake and accelerator pedal assembly.
- Install the plastic retainer inside the pedal.
- Install the e-clip onto the pedal.
- Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the pedal by pulling
the pedal straight out and down towards the top of the pedal.
Important: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed
and wide open throttle.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal.
- Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument
Panel, Gages and Console.
Accelerator Controls Bracket
Removal Procedure
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
- Rotate the throttle lever.
- Disconnect the cruise control cable from the bracket.
- Disconnect the accelerator cable from the bracket.
- Remove wiring harness clip from bracket if necessary.
- Remove the two bolts from the bracket.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within
50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can
be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference
and damage to the component.
- Install the two brackets bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 11 N·m (8 lb in)
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install wiring harness clip from bracket if necessary.
- Reconnect the accelerator cable to the bracket.
- Reconnect the cruise control cable to the bracket.
Important: The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed
and wide open throttle.
- Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating
the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator
pedal.
- Install the fuel injection sight shield.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 2 N·m (18 in lb) (VIN
1 Only).
