Front Wheel Drive Shaft Seal Replacement Left
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Wheel Removal
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the left engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine
in Body Front
End.
- Remove the left stabilizer shaft link from the left lower control
arm. Refer to
Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
in Front Suspension.
- Remove the left tie rod end from the left steering knuckle. Refer
to
Steering Knuckle Replacement
in Front Suspension.
- Remove the left lower ball joint from the left steering knuckle.
Refer to
Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement
in Front Suspension.
- Remove the left drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in
Drive Axle.
- Secure the left drive axle to the left steering knuckle and strut.
- Use a screwdriver or other suitable tool to pry out the seal (409).
Do NOT damage the seal bore.
Installation Procedure
Tools Required
• | J 34115 Left
Side Axle Seal Installer |
- Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
- Use the J 34115
to install a new seal (409).
- Install the J 37292-B
in the seal.
Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft
splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface or damage to the seal
will occur.
- Install the drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
in Drive Axle.
- Remove the J 37292-B
.
- Install the left lower ball joint to the left steering knuckle.

- Install the left tie rod end to the left steering knuckle. Refer
to
Steering Knuckle Replacement
in Front Suspension.
- Install the left stabilizer shaft link to the left lower control
arm. Refer to
Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
in Front Suspension.
- Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine
Body Front End.
- Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Wheel Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the fluid level. Refer to the following information.
- Inspect for proper completion of the repairs.
- Inspect for proper fluid level.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.

Removal Procedure

- Remove the right stabilizer shaft link from the right lower control

- Remove the right tie rod end from the right steering knuckle.

- Remove the right lower ball joint from the right steering knuckle.

- Remove the right drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement

Drive Axle.
- Secure the right drive axle to the right steering knuckle and
strut.
- Use a screwdriver or other suitable tool to pry out the seal.
Do NOT damage the seal bore.
Installation Procedure

- Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
- Use the J 29130
to
install a new seal.
- Install the J 37292-B
in the seal.

- Remove the J 37292-B

- Install the right tie rod end to the right steering knuckle. Refer

- Install the right stabilizer shaft link to the right lower control
arm. Refer to

- Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine
Body Front End.
- Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Wheel Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the fluid level. Refer to the following information.
- Inspect for proper completion of the repairs.
- Inspect for proper fluid level.
- Inspect for fluid leaks.
