DEFINITION: This procedure provides a static check of all electrical wires and components in the transmission.

1

  1. Install a J 38835 Jumper Harness on the transmission 7-way connector.
  2. Using J 39200 DMM and a J 35616-A Connector Test Adapter Kit, measure the resistance between terminals A and E (1-2 Shift Solenoid valve).

Is the resistance within the values indicated?

19-24 ohms@ 20°C (68°F) 24-31 ohms@ 88°C (190°F)

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 2

2

  1. Disconnect the internal transmission harness from the 1-2 Shift Solenoid valve.
  2. Using J 39200 DMM measure the resistance of the 1-2 Shift Solenoid valve.

Go to Step 10

10

  1. Disconnect the internal transmission harness from the TFT Sensor.
  2. Measure the resistance of the TFT Sensor.

Is the resistance within the values shown?

3.1-3.9K ohms@ 20°C (68°F)

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 15

11

Check for short to ground in TFT sensor circuit. Measure the resistance of the internal wiring harness from pins F and G of the transmission 7-way connector to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than the value indicated?

20M ohms

Go to Step 12

Go to Step 13

12

Check for short to ground in other circuits. Measure the resistance of the internal wiring harness from pins A, B, C, D, and E of the transmission 7-way connector to the transmission case.

Is the resistance more than the value indicated?

250K ohms

System OK

Go to Step 13

13

Inspect for high resistance:

    • Inspect the transmission wiring for poor connections at the 7-way connector and at the component connector.
    • Look for bent, backed out, deformed or damaged terminals.
    • Look for weak terminal tension.
