Subject: | Squeak Noise From Rear Suspension Going Over Bumps |
Models: | 2004-2005 Saturn VUE |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
Some customer may comment on a squeak creak type noise coming from the rear suspension when going over bumps or rough roads causing suspension movement. This condition may be caused by the interface between the parking brake cable and the parking brake cable guide bracket that is bolted to the rear trailing arm.
Rock the rear of the vehicle in a twisting motion in an attempt to duplicate the concern. If the squeak noise is observed, inspect the rear parking brake cable to parking brake cable guide bracket interface. If the noise is coming from this area, remove the bolt that connects the parking brake cable bracket to the rear trailing arm. With the bolt removed, apply some lubricant between the park brake cable guide and the cable. Reinstall the bolt to the park brake cable retainer and lower trailing arm. Tighten the bolt and nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
