Evaporator Outlet Hose Replacement L66

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the vehicle. Refer to Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.5L (L66).

  4. Remove the compressor hose nut from the evaporator outlet hose.
  5. Separate the compressor hose from the evaporator outlet hose.
  6. Remove and discard the seal washer from the compressor hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  7. Install a protective cap to the compressor hose to prevent contamination and desiccant saturation.
  8. Remove the evaporator outlet hose bolt from the air cleaner outlet duct bracket.

  10. Remove the evaporator outlet hose nut from the cowl.
  11. Remove the evaporator outlet hose nut from the TXV.
  12. Remove the evaporator outlet hose from the TXV.
  13. Install a protective cap to the TXV to prevent contamination and desiccant saturation.
  14. Remove and discard the seal washer from the evaporator outlet hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new seal washer to the evaporator outlet hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Remove the protective cap from the TXV.
  3. Install the evaporator outlet hose to the TXV.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the evaporator outlet hose nut to the TXV.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  7. Install the evaporator outlet hose nut to the cowl.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  9. Install the evaporator outlet hose bolt to the air cleaner outlet duct bracket.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  11. Remove the protective cap from the compressor hose.
  12. Install a new seal washer to the compressor hose. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  13. Install the compressor hose to the evaporator outlet hose.
  14. Install the compressor hose nut to the evaporator outlet hose.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  16. Install the air cleaner outlet duct to the vehicle. Refer to Air Cleaner Resonator Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.5L (L66).
  17. Evacuate and charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  18. Test the affected A/C fittings for leaks using J 39400-A .
