MIL Service Soon Telltale On With DTC P0133 - O2S Slow Response

Subject:(MIL) SERVICE SOON Telltale On with DTC P0133 - O2S SLOW RESPONSE 1 (Install PCM Calibration, If Necessary, and Install Oxygen Sensor). Due to the release of updated PCM calibration listed under Correction, this bulletin is being revised and supercedes bulletin 00-T-02A, which should be discarded.

Models:2000 Saturn S-Series vehicles

Condition

Some customers may experience a SERVICE ENGINE SOON Telltale On with a DTC P0133 - O2S SLOW RESPONSE SENSOR 1.

Cause

The response times (Lean to Rich, Rich to Lean) of a normally operating oxygen sensor may exceed the values set within the current powertrain control module (PCM) calibration or the oxygen sensor may be contaminated.

Correction

  1. Using a Scan tool, check the PCM calibration ID. Refer to the PCM Calibrations table on page 2 of this bulletin.
  2. • If DTC P0133 - Updated Calibration is installed, proceed to step 2.
    • If DTC P0133 - Updated Calibration is not installed, install new calibration and proceed to step 2. Refer to "Service Programming System (SPS)" in the Saturn Service Stall System (SSS) User Guide for reprogramming procedures.
  3. Install new oxygen sensor. For oxygen sensor removal and installation procedures, refer to "Oxygen Sensor 1 (O2S-1)" in the Engine/Emission Control section of the 2000 S-Series Engine Service Manual.
