The vehicle identification number is a system of numbers and letters used to identify a vehicle.
The vehicle identification number (VIN) plate is the legal identifier of the vehicle. The VIN plate is located on the upper LH corner of the Instrument Panel and can be seen through the windshield from the outside of the vehicle:

The vehicle identification plate, located on the left upper instrument panel, is visible from outside the vehicle. This plate contains the vehicle identification number. Each sequential unit number, prefixed by letters and numbers, is explained in the following figure:
