How to Load the Cartridge
To play discs in the changer, you must first load the cartridge with one to
twelve discs (label side down). The cartridge contains 12 individual trays which hold
one disc each and the trays should be loaded from the bottom of the cartridge to the
top.
To load the cartridge, press the button on the back of the cartridge and pull
gently on one of the trays. Remove the tray and place a disc on it with the label
side down. If the disc is not inserted label side down (upside down), the disc will
not play and an error will occur. Gently push the tray back into the cartridge slot.
Repeat this procedure for loading up to 12 discs in the cartridge.
At least one compact disc should be loaded in the CD changer at all times. (When
a compact disc is in the CD changer, the CD changer player mechanism is unlocked and
allows maximum damping).
Once you have loaded the discs in the cartridge, slide open the door of the
CD changer all the way to the right. Push the cartridge into the changer in the direction
of the arrow marked on the top of the cartridge.
Close the door by sliding it all the way to the left. If the door is left partially
open, the changer will not operate and an error will occur.
When the door is closed, the changer will begin checking for discs in the cartridge.
This will continue for up to 1 1/2 minutes depending on the number of
discs loaded.
The disc symbol will be displayed on the radio display to indicate that the
cartridge is loaded. If no discs are present (disc symbol is not shown), the CD function
is not available, and pressing the auxiliary (AX) button will cause no action.
All of the CD functions are controlled by the radio buttons except for ejecting
the cartridge. Whenever a CD cartridge with discs is loaded in the changer, the "disc"
symbol will appear in the radio display. If the CD changer is checking the cartridge
for CD's, the "disc" symbol will flash in the display until the changer
is ready to play. If the "AX" button is press during the CD changer initialization
period, "CD" will flash along with the "disc" symbol until
the CD changer is ready to play. When a CD begins playing, the display will show "CD",
the disc symbol, the disc number, and the track number.
The CD changer can be selected while the radio or tape is playing. This will
cause the radio to change to the CD mode. Selecting the CD changer while the tape
is playing will cause the tape to stop, and the tape symbol will remain displayed
for approximately five seconds, then the display will change to the time of day.
The discs and disc tracks will be played from the lowest to highest ordered
number. When entering a new disc or track, the display will show the track number
and disc number and the audio will be muted. After the highest number disc and track
are played, the player will return to the lowest numbered disc and begin playing.
To eject the cartridge from the player, simply slide the CD changer door all
the way open. The cartridge will automatically eject. Remember to keep the door closed
whenever possible to prevent dirt and dust from getting inside the changer.
Radio Preset Buttons
The radio preset buttons (1-6) will change functionality when in the CD
changer mode as explained below.
1 PREV Button: When you quickly press and release the PREV button,
the beginning of the previous track will be selected and played. If the button is
held down for more than 1 second, the player will continue to move to previous
track selections until the button is released.
If the PREV button is pressed
at the start of the lowest numbered available track on a disc, the highest available
track on the same disc will be played.
If the PREV button is pressed during the Random Play mode, the previous track
in the random sequence will be played. The PREV button must be pressed once for each
previous random selection desired.
2 RDM Button : Pressing the random play (RDM) button in the
CD changer mode will alternately turn the random play feature on or off. When the
random play feature is on, the letters "RDM" will be displayed, and the
discs loaded in the CD changer will have their tracks played in a random sequence.
When the random play feature is on, the CD player will select a randomly
chosen available disc and track and being playing. After completing the first random
selection, the player will continue to play tracks from various discs in a random
order until random play is turn off. Each time a random track is chosen, the display
will be updated, showing the disc and track number. The display will return to the
time of day approximately 5 seconds after playing begins.
Random selection does not occur during the REV and FWD audible searching modes.
In these cases, the track just before (for REV) or just after (For FWD) the track
being played will be selected. When the track selected by REV or FWD is complete,
random play will resume. To skip a selection chosen by the CD changer random play
feature, push the NEXT button. To go back to the beginning of the selection being
played, push the PREV button.
The random play feature may be cancelled by pushing the RDM button a second
time. It is also cancelled by ejecting and reloading the disc cartridge.
3 NEXT Button : When you quickly push and release the NEXT button,
the player will stop playing the current track and begin playing the next track selection.
If the button is held down for more than 1 second, the player will continue
to move forward on the disc one track at a time until the button is released. If the
last track on the disc is played when NEXT is pushed, the first track on the same
disc will be played.
Pushing the TAPE or AM/FM button before the search
is completed will stop the disc and switch the system into the tape or radio mode.
The CD symbol will remain displayed to indicate that the CD changer is available.
Pushing the AX button again will cause the unit to return to the CD mode, starting
at the beginning of the track that was playing before you pushed the TAPE or AM/FM
button, if the cartridge has not been ejected.
If the NEXT button is pushed during Random Play mode, the next track in the
random sequence will be selected.
4 REV Button: If you press and hold the REV button while a disc
is playing, the player will play in reverse at a rate of approximately 6 times the
normal play speed. This feature allows you to sample the audio at a fast rate in reverse
to locate a chosen passage. Because the disc is being sampled in reverse at a higher
than normal speed, the audio will be recognized, but will not be of normal listening
quality.
Elapsed time is displayed while operating this feature. If a
new track is encountered during the search, the updated disc and track numbers will
be displayed for approximately 5 seconds. When the beginning of the disc is
encountered, the player will stop until the button is released and then resume playing.
The display will change to the time of day approximately 5 seconds after you
release the REV button.
5 RPT Button : Pressing the repeat (RPT) button will alternately
turn the repeat track feature on or off. When the repeat track feature is on, the
letters "RPT" will be displayed.
When the repeat feature is
on, the current track will be repeated until the RPT button is pushed again.
The repeat feature is also cancelled by pushing TAPE, PREV, RPM, or NEXT by
cycling the ignition, or by turning off the radio power switch.
6 FWD Button: : When the FWD button is pushed and held during
CD play mode, the player will play the disc at a rate of approximately 6 times the
normal speed. This feature allows the user to sample the disc audio at a fast rate
to locate a desired passage. Because the disc is being played at a higher than normal
speed, the audio can be recognized, but will not be of normal listening quality.
Elapsed time is displayed while operating this feature. If a new track is encountered
during the search, the updated disc and track numbers will be displayed for approximately
5 seconds. When the end of the disc is encountered, the player will stop until
the button is released and then resume playing. The display will change to the time
of day approximately 5 seconds after you release the FWD button.
Functions of Other Important Buttons While in CD Mode
Auxiliary (AX) Button: Pushing the AX button will have no action
when the CD is playing. To change modes, push either the AM/FM button or the TAPE
button. The disc symbol will remain displayed to indicate that discs are in the player,
but stopped. Once in radio mode, pushing the AX button will cause the system to switch
back from radio mode and resume playing the disc. Once in tape mode, pushing the AX
button will cause the system to switch back from tape mode and resume playing the
disc. When switching back to CD from either radio or tape, disc play resumes from
the disc and track prior to interruption, provided the cartridge has not been ejected.
NR (Compression) Button : The NR button is used in CD changer
mode to turn the dynamic compression feature on or off. The compression feature processes
the audio signal and makes quieter passages louder, allowing them to be heard more
easily in your vehicle. When the feature is on, the letters "CMP" will
be displayed.
RCL Button: : In CD mode, the RCL (Recall) pushbutton affects
only the display with no other changes to the operation of the player.
When you push the RCL button, the current disc and track number will be displayed
and the letters "DISC" and "TRK" will be shown. After approximately
5 seconds, the display will again show the time of day.
AM/FM Button : In the CD mode, pushing the AM/FM button will
cancel the CD operation, and restore the radio operation. The letters "CD"
will be turned off, and the "disc" symbol will remain displayed to indicate
that the CD changer is available.
Tape Button : The TAPE button is used in the CD mode to select
tape play mode when a tape is present and stopped as indicated by the display of the
tape symbol. When the tape button is pushed, the CD changer will stop and tape play
will begin. The letters "CD" will turn off, and the tape track arrow will
be displayed. The "disc" symbol will remain displayed to indicate that
the CD changer is available.
In CD mode, the TAPE button has no function
when a tape is not loaded, and pushing this button will cause not action.
Button (EJECT) : The button (EJECT)
is available in CD mode only if a tape cartridge is in the player and stopped. Pushing
and releasing the button (EJECT) in the CD mode will cause the tape to
be ejected with no other effect to the player operation. If not tape is present, pushing
this button will cause not action.
The eject function is available when
the ignition is on or off.
SEEK Button (Disc Selection) : The SEEK buttons provide for
forward and reverse disc selection.
Seek directs the compact
disc changer to find the beginning of the first available track on the next higher
numbered available disc and resumes play from that point.
SEEK direct the compact disc changer to find the beginning of the
first available track on the next lower number available disc and resume play from
that point.
The SEEK button must be pushed once for each increase or decrease of the disc
number. The disc number can be increased or decreased multiple times with wraparound
at the lowest and highest available disc number. If only one disc is loaded in the
CD changer, pushing seek will cause no action.
Pushing the TAPE or AM/FM buttons before each search is completed will stop
the disc and switch the system into the tape or radio mode. The "disc"
symbol will remain displayed to indicate that the CD changer is available.
CD Errors: : Several conditions will generate errors which prevent
the CD changer from operating normally. These include upside-down disc loading, moisture
on the disc or changer, damaged discs, or improper loading or unloading of the disc.
If you accidentally load a single disc into the cartridge with the label
side up, initialization of that disc will
no
be completed.
Except in random play mode, attempts to access the disc during play will result in "Err"
being displayed for approximately 5 seconds. The next higher available properly
loaded disc will be automatically selected by the system. In random play mode, the "bad"
disc is ignored as if no disc is in the slot.
"Err" is also displayed for approximately 5 seconds if moisture
is present on the disc or the unit. The system will automatically select the next
available disc and try again. If no disc can be played, "Err" remains
on the display as the player retries each disc again and again until you cancel the
CD mode by returning to radio or tape mode.
If a disc is damaged and cannot be player, "Err" is displayed for
approximately 5 seconds, and the next higher available track or disc is automatically
selected.
If an error occurs during loading or unloading, "Err" will be displayed
for approximately 5 seconds. If this happens, the system will return to radio
mode.
