Use of DEX-COOL Extended Life Engine Coolant for 1996 Interim Vehicles

Subject:Use of DEX - COOLâ„¢ Extended-Life Engine Coolant for Service of 1996 Interim Built Saturn Vehicles.

Models:1996 interim Saturns

Purpose

Starting April, 1996, Saturn vehicles will be produced with DEX--COOLâ„¢ extended-life engine coolant. These vehicles will be equipped with specially designed cooling system components that allow the use of DEX - COOLâ„¢. DEX - COOLâ„¢ provides engine protection for 5 years/160 000 km (100,000 miles).

DEX - COOLâ„¢ is orange in color to distinguish it from conventional coolant which is green in color. Vehicles built and designed to use DEX - COOLâ„¢ will have a unique coolant reservoir cap (P/N 10285918) that has an orange dot in the center of the label, and the words "Special Coolant" printed around the orange dot. DEX - COOLâ„¢ is available in a 3.785 liter (1 gallon) container (P/N 21031164 - available in the future) or a 208.175 liter (55 gallon) drum (P/N 12377963).

Vehicles built without DEX - COOLâ„¢ should not be serviced with DEX - COOLâ„¢. These vehicles should be serviced with Saturn non-phosphate ethylene glycol engine coolant available in a 3.785 liter (1 gallon) container (P/N 21030365) or a 208.175 liter (55 gallon) drum (P/N 21030856), or equivalent, and coolant reservoir cap (P/N 10244485).

Notice: Mixing DEX - COOLâ„¢ with Saturn engine coolant could result in damage to the engine and its cooling system components. If a Saturn Vehicle, designed to use Saturn non-phosphate ethylene glycol (green) engine coolant, is contaminated with DEX - COOLâ„¢, the engine cooling system must be drained, flushed with clean water and refilled with Saturn engine coolant. Refilling the engine cooling system with DEX - COOLâ„¢ could result in damage to engine cooling system components.
