SMU - FOR EGR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

SUBJECT: Service Manual Update for EGR Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0401, P0404, P0405 and P1404 -------------------------------------------------------------

MODELS AFFECTED: 1997 Saturns -------------

PURPOSE

The diagnostic information for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCS) P0401, P0404, P0405 and P1404 has been updated to include additional failure modes in the EGR system.

IMPORTANT: When diagnosing DTCs P0401, P0404, P0405 and P1404, use the diagnostic information in this bulletin, do not use the information contained in the 1997 Powertrain Controls Service Manual.

IMPORTANT: When an EGR DTC P0404 or P1404 sets, some functions will be disabled for the duration of that ignition cycle. When repairs are complete, DTCs must be cleared, and ignition keyed Off for at least 10 seconds to allow proper operation.
