Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide revised recommendations concerning the use of Engine Cooling System Sealer in Saturn vehicles Containing DEX-COOL®.
Saturn Engine Cooling System Sealer (P/N 21007224) is compatible with both DEX-COOL® (orange) coolant and Ethylene Glycol (green) coolant.
Cooling System Sealer provides two primary benefits to the cooling system:
| • | In engines using Ethylene Glycol (green) coolant, the sealer helps to clean deposits from the water pump seal preventing potential leaks and, |
| • | In engines using either Ethylene Glycol (green) coolant or DEX-COOL® (orange) coolant, the sealer prevents minor coolant leaks due to porosity in the cast aluminum cylinder head. |
Whenever the engine cooling system is drained for maintenance or other repairs, add one 10-gram pellet of Engine Cooling System Sealer with the new engine coolant.
Vehicles designed and built to use DEX-COOL® (refer to table on next page) extended life coolant are equipped with specially designed cooling system components. These vehicles should only be serviced with DEX-COOL®. Vehicles built with ethylene glycol (refer to table on this page) should only be serviced with ethylene glycol coolant.
Notice: Mixing DEX-COOL® with ethylene glycol in a Saturn engine could result in damage to the engine and its cooling system components. If a Saturn vehicle, designed to use Saturn non-phosphate ethylene glycol (green) engine coolant is contaminated with DEX-COOL®, the engine cooling system must be drained, flushed with clean water refilled with Saturn ethylene glycol coolant.
