INFORMATION ON NEW TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

SUBJECT: Information on New Torque Specifications

MODELS AFFECTED: 1991-1996 Saturns

PURPOSE: Information on new torque specifications at the following joints:

o Steering knuckle-to-strut joint 170 N,m (126 ft-lbs)

o Transaxle strut-to-midrail bolt 70 N,m (52 ft-lbs)

o Engine strut bracket-to-engine bolts 70 N,m (52 ft-lbs)

When servicing the steering knuckle-to strut joint on 1991-1996 Saturns, the new torque specification is 170 N,m (126 ft-lbs).

NOTICE: A new steering knuckle-to-strut nut must be used; torque retention of old nut may not be sufficient.

When servicing the transaxle-strut-to-midrail bolt on 1994-1996 Saturns, the new torque specification is 70 N,m (52 ft-lbs).

When servicing the engine strut bracket-to-engine bolts on 1992-1996 Saturns, the new torque specification is 70 N,m (52 ft-lbs).
