1996 SERVICE TECHNICAL TRAINING, FIRST QUARTER

SUBJECT: 1996 Service Technical Training, First Quarter, 1996 Class Schedule

TO: Saturn Fixed Operations Managers

We are pleased to announce the first quarter, 1996 Service Technical Training schedule for the initial (fifteen-day) program. (Refer to Service Information Bulletin number 95 - I - 10, dated July, 1995, for the third and fourth quarter 1995 training schedule.) These classes are presented in the Service Technical Training Center in Spring Hill, TN. (Refer to Service Information Bulletin 94 - I - 10, dated July, 1994 for details on the training center.)

Revised Program: As a function of continuous improvement, we have restructured the initial training program. The new program, beginning with classes presented in September 1995, captures technical information for vehicle model years, 1991 through 1996.

Eligibility: According to the Franchise Operations Team (FOT), all technicians who service Saturn vehicles are required to attend the initial training course. Anyone classified as SVTC on the member roster needs to attend this program. Additionally, technician apprentices (TCAP) are eligible to attend. Saturn sponsored students in the GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) are eligible to attend between six months before and six months after ASEP graduation. Contact your Saturn field representative if you have any questions about who or when they should attend.

Enrollment: To enroll in the fifteen - day initial training program, call the Saturn Retail Training Team at 1 800 828-2112, prompt 5. Be sure to specify the class number in which you are enrolling.

Structure: The initial training program is structured as follows:

o Day 1: Diagnostic Strategy Introduction, Saturn Culture and Values o Day 2: Electrical Systems o Day 3: Service Stall System and Diagnostic Exercises o Day 4: Body System Diagnosis and Servicing o Day 5: Air Bag Systems and Diagnostic Exercises

o Day 6: Chassis Systems and Diagnostic Exercises o Day 7: Manual Transaxle Servicing and Repair o Day 8: Automatic Transaxle Diagnosis and Repair o Day 9: Automatic Transaxle Diagnosis and Repair o Day 10: Automatic Transaxle Electronic Controls o Day 11: HVAC System Diagnosis and Repair, and Plant Tour o Day 12: Engine Mechanical Diagnosis and Repair o Day 13: Engine Mechanical Diagnosis and Repair o Day 14: Engine Electronic Controls and Powertrain Management Diagnosis o Day 15: Diagnostic Lab Exercises, Final Review, and Graduation

Schedule: Some technicians cannot attend training for three consecutive weeks. We have scheduled displit" classes for them, where they attend the training program on non-consecutive weeks. These classes are as follows:
