Tapping Noise Coming From the Dash/Cowl Area

A tapping noise may be heard coming from the dash/cowl area at speeds above 97 km/h (60 mph).

The condition may be caused by air turbulence in the engine compartment causing the plenum drain valves to Flap resulting in a tapping noise from the dash/cowl area.

Follow the procedure in this bulletin to verify the cause of the condition.

1. Test drive the vehicle at highway speeds until a tapping sound is heard.
2. If the tapping sound is heard, tape the plenum drain valves shut. Drive the vehicle at highway speeds to determine if the tapping noise goes away and that the drain valves are the source of the tapping noise.
3. If the test drive and taping of the plenum drain valves verifies that the condition is caused by the plenum drain valves flapping, replace the plenum drain valves with new plenum drain valves P/N 22586047. The new plenum drain valves have a weight added to the bottom to help prevent them from flapping.



4. If a tapping noise is still being heard with the plenum drain valves taped shut, refer to Windnoise Diagnosis and Repair in the Body/Repair service Manual.

•	Pull the retainers out of the plenum drain valves and remove the plenum drain valves.

•	Position new plenum drain valves to the dash panel and install the retainers.
