Information on Changes to Manual Transaxle Clutch Pressure Plate Cover Assembly and Clutch Driven Disc Assembly

This bulletin provides information on design changes to the clutch pressure plate cover assembly and clutch driven disc assembly. This change will be implemented in production and will be used to service past model vehicles.

The changes to these parts are:

The clutch driven disc assembly and clutch pressure plate cover assembly used in manual transaxles, installed in vehicles built after and including VIN TZ72262 include the above mentioned changes, and will be referred to as 2nd design in this bulletin. The clutch pressure plate cover assembly and clutch driven disc assembly used in manual transaxle vehicles, built before and including VIN TZ272261 will be referred to as 1st design in this bulletin.

Notice: Mismatching of clutch assembly components will result in overhang of the clutch disc, causing and uneven wear and reduction of clutch disc life.

Due to changes in the friction surface dimensions between the 1st and 2nd designs of the clutch pressure plate assembly and clutch driven disc assembly, always make sue to use components of the same design together. Never use a 1st design clutch pressure plate assembly with a 2nd design clutch driven disc assembly or a 2nd design clutch pressure plate assembly with a 1st a design clutch driven disc assembly.

When servicing clutch components it will be necessary to resurface the flywheel because of different wear patterns between 1st and 2nd design clutch driven disc assemblies. (Refer to technical information bulletin 95-T-37 [corporate bulletin number 587201] for flywheel resurfacing procedure.)

Important: The changes to the clutch driven disc assembly and the clutch pressure plate cover assembly will not affect the clutch pedal load or modulation of the clutch.
