The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers may comment their OnStar LED is red after an OnStar ADT (Analog to Digital) kit was installed. When checking for DTC with the Tech2 a current U1000 will be stored in the VCIM (Vehicle Communication Interface Module). Furthermore, the DTC can be cleared but will return after each ignition is cycled. OnStar engineering has determined the issue was induced by an incomplete OnStar setup procedure.

Important Note: The Tech 2 must be updated with software version 27.008 or greater.

Follow the path listed below to complete the OnStar VCIM set-up procedure and then retest the system.

Diagnostics > Model Year > Saturn > Body > " J " > OnStar_Gen_6_05i > OnStar > Special functions > Setup New Onstar > and allow the set-up to complete.

1. Key press into the OnStar center and request to be transferred to their technical department.
2. Request a full unit configuration and the advisor re-enable OnStar HFC (Hands Free Calling)
3. Retest the OnStar system and HFC.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
