Engine Coolant Fan Replacement L61

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 886619  Size: SH
  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Important: You do not have to disconnect the electrical connector from the fan control module.

  3. Remove the fan control module by sliding up and off the bracket. Lay the module and wiring out of the way.

  4. Object Number: 894626  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect both cooling fan electrical connectors.
  6. Remove the electrical connectors from the retainer by sliding the connector as shown.

  7. Object Number: 894560  Size: SH
  8. Remove the electrical harness from the fan shroud retainer tabs.
  9. Remove the wiring harness from the clamp on the fan shroud.

  10. Object Number: 894533  Size: SH
  11. Remove the bolts which secure the fan shroud to the radiator.
  12. Remove the fan and shroud assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 894552  Size: SH

    Important: Verify that the pusher fan electrical harness is not between the fan shroud and the radiator.

  1. Install the fan and shroud assembly onto the radiator lower tabs.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 894533  Size: SH
  3. Install the fan shroud bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  5. Route the pusher fan electrical harness around the outside of the radiator end tank to the upper fan shroud.
  6. Install the electrical connectors to the retainers as shown.
  7. Connect the electrical connectors.
  8. Install the wiring harness to the clamp on the fan shroud.
  9. Install the pusher fan harness into the routing tabs on the fan shroud.

  11. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Install the fan control module by sliding down onto the bracket.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 886619  Size: SH
  1. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Important: You do not have to disconnect the electrical connector from the fan control module.

  3. Remove the fan control module by sliding up and off the bracket. Lay the module and wiring out of the way.

  4. Object Number: 886658  Size: SH
  5. Remove the control module mounting bracket.
  6. Drain the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  7. Object Number: 894561  Size: SH
  8. Remove the bolts which secure the power steering fluid reservoir to the fan shroud.
  9. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir.
  10. Position the reservoir rearward in the car.

  11. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connectors.
  12. Remove the electrical connectors from the retainer by sliding the connector as shown.
  13. Remove the retainer tabs which secure the electrical harness to the fan shroud.

  15. Remove the upper transaxle cooler line from the radiator end tank .
  16. Remove the retainer which secures the transaxle cooler line to the end tank.
  17. Cap or tape off the cooler line to prevent oil loss or contamination.

  19. Remove the clamp which secures the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
  20. Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator.

  21. Object Number: 894328  Size: SH
  22. Remove the bolts which secure the fan shroud to the radiator.
  23. Remove the fan shroud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 894552  Size: SH

    Important: Verify that the pusher fan electrical harness is not between the fan shroud and the radiator.

  1. Install the fan and shroud assembly onto the radiator lower tabs.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 894328  Size: SH
  3. Install the bolts which secure the fan shroud to the radiator.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  5. Install the retainer which secures the upper transaxle oil cooler line to the radiator end tank.
  6. Remove the cap.
  7. Install the oil cooler line to the radiator.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the cooler line to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Route the pusher fan electrical harness around the outside of the radiator end tank to the upper fan shroud.
  10. Install the fan electrical connectors into the retainers as shown.
  11. Connect the fan electrical connectors.
  12. Install the pusher fan harness under the routing tabs on the fan shroud.

  14. Install the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
  15. Install the upper radiator hose clamp at the 12 o'clock position.

  16. Object Number: 894561  Size: SH
  17. Install the bolts that secure the power steering fluid reservoir to the fan shroud.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  19. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  20. Install the fan control module by sliding down onto the bracket.
  21. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Engine Coolant Fan Replacement Pusher Fan

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 894560  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disconnect the pusher fan electrical connector.
  3. Remove the pusher fan harness from the puller fan shroud tabs
  4. Push the harness clear of the radiator end tank.

  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Remove the bolts which retain the pusher fan to the condenser.

  8. Object Number: 894550  Size: SH
  9. Remove the lower fan shroud by pulling the shroud forward and then down.

  10. Object Number: 894623  Size: SH
  11. If the pusher fan is being replaced, remove the finger guard by depressing the tabs at the 4 locations.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 894623  Size: SH
  1. If the pusher fan is being replaced, snap the finger guard into place at the 4 tabs on the pusher fan.

  2. Object Number: 894308  Size: SH

    Notice: Position pusher fan electrical harness in shroud indentation to prevent harness damage.

  3. Slide the upper pusher fan shroud under the retaining tabs located at the upper edge of the condenser.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Rotate the lower fan shroud onto the condenser and install the retaining bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  7. Route the pusher fan electrical harness around the outside of the radiator end tank, below the upper radiator hose.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 894560  Size: SH
  10. Install the pusher fan harness into the mounting tabs on the puller fan shroud.
  11. Connect the pusher fan electrical connector.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
