Power Steering Pump Replacement L61

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the power steering pump reservoir fill cap.

    2. Object Number: 891755 Size: SH
  2. Disconnect the power steering hoses from the steering gear.

    3. Object Number: 891794 Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the power steering hoses at the power steering pump.

    4. Object Number: 891795 Size: SH
  4. Remove the power steering pump to cylinder head bolts.
  5. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 891795 Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pump the cylinder head.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pump to cylinder head bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 891794 Size: SH
  2. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  3. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  4. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering gear.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  6. Fill the power steering reservoir and bleed air from the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Pump Replacement L81

Tools Required

    • SA9162C-2 Power Steering Pump Pulley Remover
    • SA9218NE Power Steering Pump Pulley Installer

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 895973 Size: SH
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.0L (L81).

    2. Object Number: 891786 Size: SH
  2. Remove the pulley from the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 891789 Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  4. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.

    5. Object Number: 891791 Size: SH
  5. Remove the power steering pump to bracket bolts.
  6. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.

    7. Object Number: 891652 Size: SH
  7. Using the SA9162C-2 , remove the power steering pulley hub from the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 891653 Size: SH
  1. Using the SA9218NE , install the power steering pulley hub to the power steering pump.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 891791 Size: SH
  2. Install the power steering pump to the power steering pump bracket.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the pump to bracket bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

    Important: Inspect the power steering hose O-ring and replace if necessary.

  3. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  4. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the clamp to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  5. Install the Power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .

    6. Object Number: 895973 Size: SH
  6. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.0L (L81).
  7. Fill the power steering reservoir and bleed air from the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
