The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solenoid and pintle valve assembly serve to reduce the temperature of combustion by introducing non-volatile exhaust gas into the combustion chambers. During normal operation of the EGR Valve the actual position corresponds to the commanded position. If the EGR should become slow to respond or begins to deviate from the commanded position, this code will set.
DTC P1406 will set if deviation between the commanded and actual position of the EGR value is greater than 20% when:
Condition exists for longer than 10 seconds
P1406 is a (type B) DTC.
Possible causes:
• | EGR valve stuck or carbon plugged |
• | Corrosion in connector |
• | EGR valve frozen from moisture in exhaust system (extreme cold conditions only) |
• | EGR |
