The fuel level sensor is an important input to the control module for the enhanced evaporative system diagnostic. The fuel level information is needed for the ECM to know the volume of fuel in the fuel tank. The fuel level affects the rate of change in the air pressure in the EVAP system. The resistance across the sensor changes with the fuel level, varying the voltage drop across it. Two tank reading are taken roughly 50 miles apart from one another. This DTC will set if the two tank readings do not reflect an adequate change in fuel level.
DTC P0461 will set when fuel level does not change adequately, over a caliberated amount of driving miles.
P0461 is a (type D) DTC.
This code will sen then the actual change in fuel level does not correlate with the expected change in fuel level.
Possible causes:
• | Float damaged or stuck |
• | Stuck or skewed fuel level sensor |
