Models:2000 Saturn L-Series Sedans and Wagons



Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to update all the 2000 L-Series Chassis Service Manuals at your location.

When instructed to inspect wheel bolts on the Used Car Inspection Form or when replacing wheel bolts, always refer to the Parts and Illustration Catalog to verify the correct wheel bolt part number is used for that vehicle's wheel package.

Obtain all the 2000 L-Series Chassis Service Manuals at your location and update as follows.

    • Under the art boxes on pages 34 and 50, write in the following:
        Always replace wheel bolts in complete sets of five. Silver colored wheel bolts are used on steel wheels only. Blue colored wheel bolts are used on aluminum wheels only.
    • On page 153, cross out step 5 and write the following above that step:
        5. Tighten inner tie rod-to-outer tie rod jam nut.
        Torque: 60 N·m (44 ft -- lbs)
    • On page 156, cross out step 11 and write in the following:
        11. Tighten inner tie rod-to-outer tie rod jam nut.
        Torque: 60 N·m (44 ft -- lbs)
    • Make a photo copy of page 2 of this bulletin and insert the copy between pages 48 and 49.

Front Wheel Toe

Important: When performing front wheel toe adjustment, ensure that steering wheel is locked in the straight-ahead position.

  1. Position and lock steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
  2. Loosen left side and right side inner tie rod-to-outer tie rod jam nuts.
  3. Notice: Make sure seals on steering gear assembly do not rotate and become twisted. If these seals rotate and become twisted, seal damage may result.

  4. Use a wrench on inner tie rod flats to turn inner tie rods in direction of desired change.
  5. After toe adjustment is complete, tighten left side and right side inner tie rod-to-outer tie rod jam nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Torque: 60 N·m (44 lb ft)

  7. Re-check toe angles to ensure proper adjustment and re-adjust if necessary.
