Installation Procedure
Tools Required
J 44628 Bearing Bridge Sleeve Wrench
- Install the crankshaft reluctor ring.
- Install the crankshaft reluctor bolts. Use the new crankshaft sensor bolts.
Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft reluctor ring screw to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Install the crankshaft bearings to the engine block.
- Install the crankshaft to the engine block.
- Apply clean engine oil to the bearing surfaces.
- Install the main bearings to the main bearing caps.
- Apply RTV sealer, LOCTITE® 5900 or equivalent to the fourth main bearing
cap.
- Install the main bearing caps to the engine block.
Place the main bearing caps in numerical order.
Important: Orient the torsional bridge with the arrow pointing to the front of the engine.
- Install the crankshaft bearing bridge.
Important: Use the new main bearing cap bolts or damage may occur when the final tightening
is performed.
- Install the main bearing cap bolts loosely.
- Clean the old thread locking compound from the adjusting sleeves.
- Back out the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves until the bushings
do not contact the engine block when the bridge is fully seated. Tighten the main
bearing cap bolts in 3 passes.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft bearing bridge bolts to 60 N·m(44 lb ft) + 15°.
- Apply the thread locking compound LOCTITE®
272 or equivalent to the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves.
- Tighten the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves using the J 44628
.
Tighten
Tighten the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves to 8 N·m
(71 lb in).
- Tighten the outer crankshaft bearing bridge bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the outer crankshaft bearing bridge bolts to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
