Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. For sedan only, remove the upper grilles. Refer to Front Bumper Upper Fascia Grille Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 863872  Size: SH
  4. Remove the release cable from the latch. Note the routing of the hood cable in the engine compartment for installation.
  5. Tape a 2 m (7 ft) length of wire to the latch end of the cable.

  7. Inside the vehicle, remove the left front carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement.

  8. Object Number: 863808  Size: SH
  9. Remove the handle from the hood latch handle bracket. Use 2 small flat-bladed tools to disengage the retainer clip.

  10. Object Number: 863920  Size: SH
  11. Slide the handle rearward.

  12. Object Number: 863923  Size: SH
  13. If the handle will not slide rearward, use pliers in the following steps:
  14. 8.1. Place one end of the pliers on the tab of the hood release lever base, near the bracket.
    8.2. Place the other end of the pliers on the rearward edge of the bracket.
    8.3. Squeeze the pliers.
    8.4. If necessary, place a flat-bladed tool in the slot.

  15. Pull the hood cable through the front of the dashboard. Use a flat-bladed tool to loosen the grommet.

Installation Procedure

  1. Tape the feeder wire onto the end of the new cable.

  2. Object Number: 863925  Size: SH
  3. Use the feeder wire to pull the cable through the cowl grommet into the engine compartment.
  4. Install the hood primary latch release cable through the hole in the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the feeder wire from the hood release cable.
  6. Install the hood release cable handle assembly onto the bracket.

  8. Install the front carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement.

  9. Object Number: 863872  Size: SH
  10. Connect the hood release cable to the latch.
  11. Inspect the hood latch cable for proper operation.
  12. Install the upper grille. Refer to Front Bumper Upper Fascia Grille Replacement.
  13. Close the hood.
