Info - Instrument Cluster Needle Pointers Do Not Light Up When Key Is In the Run Position and the Headlamps are Off - Normal Operating Condition

Subject:Instrument Cluster Needle Pointers Do Not Light Up When Key is in the "Run" Position and the Headlamps are Off -- Normal Operating Condition

Models:2003 Saturn ION Vehicles
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 3Z140500

Attention: Technician

Purpose

Saturn ION vehicles built prior to VIN breakpoint 3Z140500 do not have the I/P cluster needle pointers that light up when the key is in the "run" position and the headlamps are off. The purpose of this bulletin is to inform technicians and customers that this is the normal operating condition. When the headlamps are turned on, the needles will light up on all vehicles. There is no need to replace the instrument cluster.

Important: When diagnosing a vehicle, if some of the needles light up and some do not, then the concern is internal to the I/P cluster assembly. Replacement of the I/P cluster is then necessary. All service replacement I/P clusters have needles that light up when the headlamps are off.
