Radio with Six-Disc CD and Cassette Tape Player

This audio system has a cassette tape player and a six-disc in-dash CD player. See Playing a Compact Disc (CD) in the Six-Disc In-Dash CD Player in this section.

Playing the Radio

Power/VOL: When you push the Power/VOL knob in, the system will turn on or off. Turn the Power/VOL knob to control the volume when the system is on. Turn the knob to the right to increase the volume or turn the knob to the left to decrease the volume.

RCL: If you press the RCL button while both the vehicle and radio are on, the display will show the station frequency. The station frequency only stays on the display for ten seconds before returning to display the time of day. If you press the RCL button before the ten seconds has passed, the time of day will instantly return to the display. If you press the RCL button while the vehicle is off, the back lighting of the display will light up so that it is easier to read the time of day. While playing a CD, press the RCL button to see what track number is currently being played. Immediately pressing RCL again will display the elapsed track time.

Finding a Station

AM FM: When you press the AM/FM button, the radio will switch between FM1, FM2, and AM bands. Two FM bands are available so that you may preset twelve FM station frequencies. You may preset six AM station frequencies on the AM band. This display will show your band selection, along with the station frequency, for ten seconds before returning to display the time of day. If you press the AM/FM button while the radio is off or while either a tape, CD, or CD changer is playing, the radio will switch back to the last played AM or FM station without ejecting the tape or CD that was being played.

TUNE : When in the AM/FM mode, use the tune function to manually change the station frequency one station at a time by lightly pressing a side of the TUNE rocker button. Press the left side of the rocker button to decrease the frequency by one station. After you release the rocker button, the display shows the station frequency and band for ten seconds, then returns to display the time of day.

SEEK : Use the seek function to automatically proceed to the next available frequency that can be received with good sound quality. Press and hold one side of the SEEK/SCAN rocker button. The radio will begin to change station frequencies, then will stop at the next receivable station frequency. Press the right side of the rocker button to increase to the next higher station, or press the left side of the rocker button to decrease to the next lower station. If you would like to cancel the seek function before it reaches the next receivable station, press the SEEK/SCAN rocker button in the opposite direction that it is currently seeking.

SCN (Scan): Use the scan function to sequentially sample all of the station frequencies that can be received with good sound quality. The radio will pause for 5 seconds at each station. To activate the scan function press and hold one side of the SEEK/SCAN rocker button until a tone sounds, indicating that the scan function has been activated. Press and hold the right side of the rocker button to scan the higher receivable stations, or press and hold the left side of the rocker button to scan the next lower receivable stations. While scanning, SCAN will appear on the display. To cancel the scan function, press either side of the SEEK/SCAN rocker button a second time. If a station frequency is currently being played when the scan function is cancelled, that station will continue to play. If the radio is between station frequencies when you cancel the scan function, the radio will return to the last station frequency played.

Setting Preset Stations

The six pushbuttons let you choose and set your favorite stations. You can set up to six AM stations and 12 FM stations (six FM1 and six FM2).

To set a station frequency to a preset button:

1. Turn the radio on.
2. Press AM/FM to select FM1, FM2, or AM.
3. Tune in the desired station.
4. Press and hold the designated preset button until you hear an audio confirmation beep. Whenever you press a numbered preset button, the stored station frequency at the station will return.
5. Repeat the steps for each preset button.

Any previous set station on a station frequency preset button will be replaced by the last station frequency programmed on that button.

Note: If the battery has been disconnected or a radio fuse has been removed, the preset stations and time of day will need to be reset.

A.SET (Automatic Station Set): When traveling outside your normal area, you can use the A.SET (automatic station set) feature to automatically set the radio station buttons to the strongest station in the area you are traveling. To activate the A.SET feature, press and hold AM/FM button. The radio will beep then begin to search through the current band, AM or FM, and will pick out the strongest radio stations. The radio will then store the six strongest AM stations or twelve strongest FM stations, starting from the lowest frequency, to each station preset button. To notify you that the station presets are now stored and ready to use, "A.SET" will appear on the display. The radio retains your originally stored stations so that they are recalled when the A.SET feature is canceled.

Cancelling Automatic Set

To cancel the A.SET feature, press and hold the AM/FM button until a tone sounds and "A.SET" no longer appears on the display. Your originally stored stations will return to your station preset buttons.

Setting the Tone

For the tone setting to be continuously shown on the display, press and hold the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob in until you hear a beep. To remove the tone setting from the display, press the knob in until you hear a beep.

If you feel that the seven preset settings are not to your liking and you would like to customize your speaker sound performance, it is recommended to begin your adjustment from the FLAT Auto Tone. Then manually adjust the performance of your sound system to your own preference.

Your Auto Tone settings remain set after the vehicle is turned off. For a station preset button, the tone setting will remain stored until you change the tone setting or until you change the station stored at the station preset button. For a cassette tape, a CD in the in-dash CD player, or a CD in the CD changer magazine, the tone setting will remain stored until you change the tone setting, even after the medium is ejected.

Setting the Tone Manually

When you begin to adjust the TREB or BASS manually, the AUTO Tone mode will automatically switch to CSTM (custom) thus enabling tone control adjustment to the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob. This CSTM setting cannot be stored.

BASS: Press the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob until BASS appears on the display on the display so that you can adjust the bass response. Turn the knob to the right to increase the bass response. Turn the knob to the left to decrease the bass response. The display moves accordingly. If you do not press or rotate the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob within ten seconds, the display will return to display the time of day.

TREB (Treble): Press the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob until TREB appears on the display on the display so that you can adjust the treble response. Turn the knob to the right to increase the bass response. Turn the knob to the left to decrease the bass response. The display moves accordingly. If you do not press or rotate the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob within ten seconds, the display will return to display the time of day. If a station is week or noisy, you may want to decrease the treble for better sound quality.

Adjusting the Speakers

FAD (Fade): Press the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob until FADE appears on the display. This mode allows you to adjust the sound between the front and rear speakers. In the fade mode, rotate the knob to the right and move the blank row to the display gradually to the top row to hear the sound from the front speakers only. Rotate the knob to the left and move the blank row on the display gradually to the bottom row to hear the sound from the rear speakers only. To adjust the sound between the front and rear speakers equally, move the blank row on the display to the middle position. If you do not press or rotate the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob within ten seconds, the display will return to display the time of day.

BAL (Balance): Press the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob until BAL appears on the display. This mode allows you to adjust the balance of sound between the speakers on the right and left side of the vehicle. In the balance mode, rotate the knob to the right to hear the sound from the front speakers only from the right side of the vehicle, or rotate the knob to the left to hear the sound only from the speakers on the left side of the vehicle. This display moves accordingly. To balance the sound between the right and left side speakers equally, move the blank column on the display to the middle position. If you do not press or rotate the BASS/TREB/FADE/BAL knob within ten seconds, the display will return to display the time of day.

CD/TP (CD Tape) or Auxiliary (AUX)

Press the CD/TP (single in-dash CD player) or AUX (six-disc in-dash CD player) button to select the media player mode:

This button can be used when the vehicle is on and at least one of the media is available and loaded (either a tape is in the tape player, or a CD is in the CD player.

You will know if a tape or CD is loaded by looking at which symbols are lit on the display when the vehicle is on.

When the radio is playing and more than one of the media is present, press the CD/TP or AUX button to switch to the medium you would like to play.

To return to playing the radio, press the AM/FM button.

Playing a Cassette Tape

Your cassette tape player is built to work best with tapes that are 60 or 90 minutes lone (30 or 45 minutes long on each side). Longer playing tapes are so thin that they may not work well in this player. The tape player will automatically sense and appropriately play when the tape inserted is either standard, metal, or CrO².

Insert the cassette tape with the thinner side of the tape cartridge to the left side of the player. If you hear noting or if you hear garbled sound, the tape may not be in squarely. Push the EJ (eject) button to remove the tape the reinsert the tape.

While a tape is in the tape player, either stored or while the tape is playing, the tape symbol will be illuminated on the bottom of the display. Also while the tape is playing an arrow ( or ) will be illuminated next to the tape symbol to show which side of the tape is being played.

When the down arrow () is lit, selections listed on the bottom side of the tape are played. When the up arrow () is lit, selections listed on the top side of the tape are played. The tape player will automatically change the side of the tape being played when it reaches the end of the current side.

Cassette tapes are subject to wear and the could quality may degrade over time. Always verify that the tape is in good condition and that it is no longer than 90 minutes (45 minutes on each side) before obtaining service on the cassette tape player. Tapes longer than 90 minutes are so thin that they may not work in the cassette tape player.

PRV (Previous): To move to the beginning of the current selection, press PREV button (Station Frequency Preset Button 1). Once at the beginning of that selection, push the PREV button again to move to the beginning of the next previous selection. While the tape is rewinding, the radio will automatically play the last played AM or FM station.

NEXT: To skip the current selection and began playing the next selection, push the NEXT button (Station Frequency Preset Button 2). The tape will advance to the beginning of the next selection and will begin to play it. While the tape is advancing, the radio will pay the last played AM or FM station.

SIDE: To change the side of the tape being played, press the side button (Station Frequency Preset Button 3). An arrow ( or ) is illuminated next to the tape symbol to show which side of the tape is being played. When the down arrow ( ) is lit, selections on the bottom side of the tape are played. When the Up arrow () is lit, selections on the top side of the tape are played. The tape will automatically change the side of the tape being played when it reaches the end of the current side.

Dolby B®: To remove background hiss noise from the tape player, press Dolby B® Noise Reduction button, (Station Frequency Preset Button 4) when a tape is being played. The Dolby B® symbol is present on the bottom of the display while the feature is turned on. Dolby B® Noise Reduction does not remove background hiss noise from a radio station or a CD. Dolby Noise Reduction is manufactured under a license from Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation. Dolby and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation.

RPT (Repeat): To repeat the current selection on the tape or CD, press RPT button (Station Frequency Preset Button 6). At the end of the selection, the player will rewind to the beginning of the selection. The selection will keep repeating until you cancel the repeat feature by pressing the RPT button again. While the Repeat feature is on, the letters RPT will be displayed on the display.

REW/FF (Rewind/Fast Forward) Rocker Button: Rewind Function: To move backward in the tape, press the REW side of the REW/FF rocker button. To stop rewinding, press the REW button again. To move to the beginning of the tape, press the REW side of the REW/FF rocker button. When the player reaches the beginning of the current side , the player will play that side of the tape. While the tape is rewinding, the radio will play the last played AM or FM station. Fast Forward Function: To move ahead in the tape, press the FF side of the REW/FF rocker button. To stop moving forward, press the FF button again. To move to the end of the tape, press the FF side of the REW/FF rocker button and when the player reaches the end of the current side, the player will play the other side of the tape. While the tape is fast forwarding, the radio will play the last played AM or FM station.

EJ (Tape Eject): To remove the tape from the tape player, push the EJ button that is located next to the tape insertion opening. You can eject a tape whether the ignition is on or off.

Playing a Compact Disc (CD) in the Single In-Dash CD Player

Before inserting a CD, press the EJ (eject) button to make sure that a CD is not already in the player. With the ignition on and the radio either in or off, insert a CD, label side up, part way into the slot. The player will pull the CD in and begin to play the CD even if the radio was off.

While your vehicle is on, the CD symbol will be present on the display whenever a CD is present in the CD player.

While a CD is playing, the CD symbol will be presented on the display along with an indication of which track is being played.

If the radio is off when you install a CD, the player will return to the power off state when you eject the CD. If the radio is off when you install a CD and you had press the AM/FM button while you were playing the CD, then the last played radio station will be played again when you eject the CD.

CD (Compact Disc): When the vehicle is on, press the CD button to play a CD when the radio is on or while the radio is off and a CD is already in the CD player. You will know that a CD is already in the player, if the CD symbol is on the display when the vehicle is on.

EJ (Eject): Press the EJ button to eject the CD from the CD player. You can eject a CD regardless of whether the ignition is on or off. If you eject the CD, then before removing it from the player decide you would like to play it, press CD button. The player will pull the CD back into the CD player and begin to play it. If you eject the CD, but do not remove it from the player within 15 seconds, the CD player will automatically pull the CD back in.

PRV (Previous) or TUNE/SEEK: To move to the beginning of the current track, press the PRV button (Station Frequency Preset Button 1) or the TUNE/SEEK button.

NXT (Next) TUNE/SEEK : To move to the next tract, press either the NXT button or the TUNE/SEEK button (Station Frequency Preset Button 2).

REV (Reverse): To quickly reverse within a track, press and hold the REV button (Station Frequency Preset Button 3). You will hear sound at a reduced volume and the display will show elapsed track time. Release the REV button to resume play.

FWD (Forward): To quickly advance within a track, press and hold the FWD button (Station Frequency Preset Button 4). You will hear sound at a reduced volume and the display will show elapsed track time. Release the FWD button to resume play.

RPT (Repeat): To turn the repeat track feature on or off, press the RPT button (Station Frequency Preset Button 6). When the repeat track feature is on, the letters RPT will be displayed on the display. The current track will keep repeating until you cancel the repeat feature by pressing the RPT button again.

RDM (Random): To hear the tracks on the CD in a random rather than a sequential order, press the RDM button (Station Frequency Preset Button 5). After pressing the RDM button, the CD player will immediately stop playing the current selection and will advance to the first random selection. To skip a selection chosen by the random play feature, press the NEXT button. To repeat a selection only one time, press the PREV button. To turn off random play mode, press the RDM button again. While using the random feature, RDM will be present on the display.

Playing a Compact Disc (CD) in the Six-Disc In-Dash CD Player

A single CD or multiple CDs can be loaded or ejected. The Load/Eject (LD/EJ) button is used to begin loading or ejecting CDs. CDs cannot be loaded or ejected unless the LD/EJ button is used.

Loading/Ejecting a Single CD

Cancel Loading or Ejecting CDs

PRV (Previous): To move to the beginning of the current track, press the PRV button (Station Preset Button 1). If you hold the button down or press the button more than once, the player will continue to move backward through the tracks on the CD.

NXT (Next): To move to the next tract, press wither the NEXT button (Station Preset Button 2). If you hold the button down or press the button more than once, the player will continue to move forward through the tracks on the CD.

DISC/SEEK/SCAN : To select the next higher number CD in the CD player press DISC/SEEK/SCAN .

DISC/SEEK/SCAN: To select the next lower number CD in the CD player press DISC/SEEK/SCAN.

RDM (Random) Play: Three modes of CD play are selectable by pressing the RDM button while playing CDs. Each press of the RDM button selects the next random play mode.

Random Mode: Tracks on the current CD will be randomly played while in this mode. Track playing is limited to the current CD while in this mode. The radio will display RDM while in the random mode.

All Random Mode: Tracks on all CDs in the player will be randomly played. The radio will display ALL BDM while in the random mode.

Sequential Mode: Tracks on all CDs will be played in sequential order. No display indicator is present for the sequential mode. Press PREV or NEXT in random play mode selects another randomly selected track.

RPT (Repeat): To turn the repeat track feature on or off, press the RPT button (Station Frequency Preset Button 6). When the repeat CD feature is on, the letters RPT will be displayed on the display. The current CD will keep repeating until you cancel the repeat feature by pressing the RPT button again.

REW/FF (Rewind/Fast Forward): To quickly advance within a track, press and hold the FWD button (Station Frequency Preset Button 4). You will hear sound at a reduced volume and the display will show elapsed track time. Release the FWD button to resume play.
