DEFINITION: The low coolant indicator is always on when the key is in the ON position.

Did you perform the Engine Cooling Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. With a scan tool command the instrument cluster LCD Display ON and OFF.

Do all the segments of the LCD Display turn ON and OFF with each command?

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the coolant level switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Test the Ignition voltage circuit of the coolant level switch for an open or high resistance or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the coolant level switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a fused jumper wire between the coolant level switch signal circuit and the Ignition voltage circuit of the coolant level switch connector.

Does the low coolant level indicator turn OFF?

Go to Step 7

Test the signal circuit of the coolant level switch for an open, high resistance or an short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the coolant level switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

Replace the coolant level switch. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement

Important: Perform the recalibration procedure for the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
