Subject: | DTC B1006 in REC |
Models: | 2008 Saturn Astra |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A technician may comment that they find DTC B1006 as current in the REC module, also known as Rear Electrical Center or Rear Fuse Block. If the current DTC B1006 is cleared and returns immediately, the dealer should determine if the battery has recently been disconnected or if the vehicle has possibly been jump started lately.
It has been determined that if a battery connection is "bounced" (meaning that the electrical connection is made, broken and made again) while connecting a battery cable or jumper cable, this can cause a false B1006 to set as a current DTC in the REC module. For this reason that if the battery has been disconnected or jump started recently, the first repair should be to disconnect the battery cables for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect the battery without allowing the connection to "bounce" as it is being made then check for current DTCs again. If the dealer has verified that this condition was only noticed after a Battery disconnect or a jump start of the vehicle, and the DTC did not return as a current DTC after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected properly, NO parts should be replaced. Engineering is aware of the condition and working toward a permanent resolution.
If the current DTC B1006 is cleared and returns immediately and the dealer has already verified that no battery disconnect or vehicle jump start has occurred in the recent past, ONLY then should the REC module be replaced.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
