Subject:Radio Does Not Turn Off at Key Out

Models:2008 Saturn Astra

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A technician may comment that the radio does not turn off at key out and/or the radio stays on longer than 20 minutes during RAP.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The radio in the Astra is user programmable under the "SETTINGS" menu to allow the radio to play after key out (for 1 hour) or to turn off with key out. This feature is called "IGNITION LOGIC". The factory default setting is "ON" which will turn the radio ON and OFF with the ignition key. To access this feature: With radio ON, press the "MAIN" button on the radio face and then press the "SETTINGS" button, this will bring up the menu options. From this menu you should be able to see if the "IGNITION LOGIC" selection has the box checked/filled. To change, scroll down to the "IGNITION LOGIC" menu option and make the desired selection.

There are 2 selections available, "TURN RADIO ON/OFF VIA IGNITION LOGIC" and "TURN ON RADIO VIA ON/OFF BUTTON ONLY".

  1. Checking the box selects the "TURN RADIO ON/OFF VIA IGNITION LOGIC" option. With this selected the radio will shut off when the key is removed from the ignition lock cylinder and will turn on the next time the key is turned to the accessory position.
  2. Note: The radio can still be turned on manually with the key removed by pressing the power button. The radio will remain on for 1 hour or until the power button is pressed again.

  3. Un-checking the box selects the "TURN ON RADIO VIA ON/OFF BUTTON ONLY" option. With this selection the radio will not shut off when the key is removed from the ignition cylinder. The radio can be turned off manually by pressing the power button, or it will shut off automatically after 1 hour.
  4. Notice: The radio will not turn on when the ignition switch is turned to the accessory position; it must be turned on with the power button.

Note: THE RADIO WILL TURN ON ANY TIME THE "ON" BUTTON IS PUSHED, EVEN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE RADIO WILL REMAIN ON FOR UP TO 1 HOUR UNLESS THE POWER BUTTON IS PRESSED BEFORE THAT TIME.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
