When trying to determine which steering system the vehicle is using, the following list may help.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The manufacturer of the steering rack can be identified by determining the standard wheel size. Use VIS to look up the wheel type/size and compare that to the list below.
STANDARD 16" wheels 5-dr XE....has base TRW Gear 15:1 ratio electro hydraulic rack and pinion power steering ...non variable effort
STANDARD 17" wheels 3-dr XR or OPTIONAL 17" 5-dr XR has ZF Gear 14:1ratio...variable effort...increased turning radius or reduced rack travel for 17" tire...electro-hydraulic rack & pinion power steering
OPTIONAL 18" wheels 3-dr has ZF Gear 14:1ratio...variable effort...increased turning radius or reduced rack travel for 18" tire...electro-hydraulic rack & pinion power steering
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
