Service Required After Battery Replacement - astra battery express inoperative replace rke service window

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

When the battery has been disconnected or replaced for service, the power window express down function will need to be relearned. This may also be required after certain module replacements such as the rear (electrical) zone module.

The Saturn Astra is equipped with an "Express Down" feature for the power windows. This feature is on all windows. It allows you to lower the window all the way without holding the switch down. To activate press and hold the unlock button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter to lower all of the windows from outside the vehicle. This feature must be relearned each time a battery is disconnected or the rear electrical center is removed/replaced.

The power window express down feature will need to be relearned upon battery disconnect or service. Until relearned the express open feature will be inop.

Follow this procedure below to relearn the power windows express down feature:

A. Ignition ON, lower each window to the full down position and hold each window switch at the full down position for 5 seconds.

B. Raise each window to the full up position and hold each window switch at the full up position for 5 seconds.

C. Ignition OFF and remove key.

D. Close all doors and command all doors to LOCK by using remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter.

E. Command all doors to UNLOCK by using the RKE transmitter.

F. Verify that the express down feature is working by pressing and holding the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter. If the express down function is successfully relearned, all power windows should roll completely down.

Note: Anytime battery power is lost or if the rear electrical center is replaced, this express down feature must be relearned.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
