KM-6004-2 Tie Rod Wrench

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1940570  Size: LH
  1. Remove the corresponding tie rod end from the tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  2. Important: To remove and refit the right-hand tie rod the left-hand boot must also be detached from the steering gear. A flat surface is to be found on the steering shaft side to hold against the steering rack (arrows).

  3. Remove the corresponding boot. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement .
  4. Remove the tie rod with KM-6004-2   (1) from the steering rack.
  5. Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1940570  Size: LH
  1. Install the tie rod outer linkage to the steering gear.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten to 90 N·m (67 lb ft).

    • Clean the rack thread and coat with locking compound.
    • Install the tie rod to the rack with KM-6004-2  (1).
    • Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat (arrow).
  3. Install the boot or boots. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement .
  4. Install the corresponding tie rod end. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  5. Inspect the straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection .
  6. Inspect the toe-in, adjust if necessary. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
