The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The steering column control module (SCCM) generates the audible warnings through an internal acoustic speaker. The SCCM receives audible warning requests via the serial data circuit from other vehicle systems and modules. If the SCCM receives multiple audible warning requests, the warning with the highest priority sounds first.
The SCCM activates the fasten safety belt audible warning as requested by the SDM. The SCCM receives a serial data message from the SDM indicating the driver seat belt status. The SCCM sounds the fasten safety belt warning when the ignition switch transitions to ON, the SDM detects that the driver or passenger seat belt is not buckled. If the seat belt is buckled when the ignition is turned on, the chime does not sound. If the seat belt is buckled while the chime is sounding, the chime stops.
The SCCM activates the key-in-ignition audible warning. The SCCM determines that the ignition switch is closed with the ignition in the OFF position and the driver door is open.
The SCCM activates the lights on audible warning as requested by the underhood electrical center (UEC). The UEC sends a serial data message to the SCCM indicating the chime frequency and duration. The lights on warning sounds when the ignition is OFF, the driver door is open and the headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEAD position.
The SCCM activates the park brake audible warning as requested by the rear electrical center (REC). The REC sends a serial data message to the SCCM indicating the chime frequency and duration. The park brake warning sounds and the brake indicator illuminates when the ignition is ON, the vehicle speed is greater than 5 km/h (3.1 mph) and the REC determines that the park brake is engaged
The SCCM activates the turn signal audible warning as requested by the UEC. The UEC sends a serial data message to the SCCM indicating the chime (click-clack sound) frequency and duration.
The following warnings have an associated instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicator:
• | Brake Warning |
• | Charging System |
• | High Engine Coolant Temperature |
• | Low Fuel |
• | Low Engine Oil Pressure |
• | Service Vehicle Soon |
