Subject: | Parking Lamps Illuminated Only on One Side |
Models: | 2008 Saturn Astra |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A technician may comment that the parking lamps may intermittently illuminate only on one side. They may state the left or right parking lamps will illuminate without headlamps or any DTCs setting.
This is a feature designed to illuminate the side of the vehicle facing the roadway when parked on narrow streets and is to be considered Normal Operation. This is a European requirement and cannot be changed/programmed or eliminated. This feature is often referred to as "Curb Side Parking Lamps".
This condition is set when the ignition switch is in the off position, and the turn signal stalk switch is moved past its detent to the left or right position. The parking lamps only (both front and rear) will light for the side selected. An audible acknowledgement of three chimes will also sound to confirm selection of curb side parking lamps and the appropriate turn signal arrow will illuminate in the IPC. This feature may be cancelled by moving the turn signal stalk switch in the opposite direction without moving past the detent or by cycling the ignition switch.
NOTE: THIS FEATURE IS NOT DISABLED BY THE BATTERY RUNDOWN PROTECTION. IF THE LAMPS ARE LEFT ON BATTERY DISCHARGE WILL OCCUR.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
