    • J 42492-A (KM 421-A) Timing Belt Adjuster
    • J 45059 Angle Meter
    • KM-470-B Angular Torque Gage

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
  3. Disconnect the air intake tube from the throttle body.
  4. Disconnect the breather tube from the valve cover.

  6. Remove the air cleaner housing bolts.
  7. Remove the air cleaner housing.
  8. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Remove the right front wheel well splash shield.

  11. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement .
  12. Remove the upper timing belt cover bolts.
  13. Remove the upper timing belt cover.

  14. Object Number: 1241612  Size: SH
  15. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  16. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  17. Object Number: 1241552  Size: SH
  18. Remove the lower timing belt cover bolts.
  19. Remove the lower timing belt cover.

  20. Object Number: 1241617  Size: SH
  21. Install the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  22. Rotate the crankshaft at least 1 full turn clockwise using the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  23. Align the dot on the crankshaft gear to the notch at the bottom of the rear timing belt cover.

  24. Object Number: 1241548  Size: SH
  25. Align the camshaft gear timing mark to the notch at the top of the rear timing belt cover.

  26. Object Number: 1241553  Size: SH
  27. Slightly loosen the 3 coolant pump retaining bolts.
  28. Using the J 42492-A (1) , rotate the coolant pump clockwise to add the highest tension to the timing belt.
  29. Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts loosely.

  30. Object Number: 1241610  Size: SH
  31. Align the adjust arm hole of the timing belt automatic tensioner to the hole in the timing belt automatic tensioner bracket.
  32. Insert a 4.5 mm (0.177 in) driver through the adjust arm hole and the tensioner bracket hole.
  33. Rotate the crankshaft 2 full turns clockwise using the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  34. Rotate the crankshaft at least 1 full turn clockwise using the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  35. Remove the driver from the timing belt automatic tensioner.
  36. Loosen the coolant pump retaining bolts.

  37. Object Number: 1241572  Size: SH
  38. Rotate the coolant pump until the adjust arm pointer of the timing belt automatic tensioner is aligned with the notch in the timing belt automatic tensioner bracket.
  39. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  40. Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts.
  41. Tighten
    Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  42. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  43. Install the lower timing belt cover.
  44. Install the lower timing belt cover bolts.
  45. Tighten
    Tighten the lower timing belt cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  46. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  47. Install the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  48. Tighten

        • Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 95 N·m (70 lb ft) using a torque wrench.
        • Use the KM-470-B or the J 45059 to tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt another 30 degrees plus 15 degrees.

  49. Install the upper timing belt cover.
  50. Install the upper timing belt cover bolts.
  51. Tighten
    Tighten the upper timing belt cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Refer to Belt Dressing Notice in the Preface section.

  52. Install the serpentine accessory drive belt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement .

  53. Object Number: 1241549  Size: SH
  54. Install the right front wheel well splash shield.
  55. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  56. Install the air cleaner housing.
  57. Install the air cleaner housing bolts.
  58. Tighten
    Tighten the air filter housing bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  59. Connect the air intake tube to the throttle body.
  60. Connect the breather tube to the valve cover.
  61. Connect the IAT sensor connector.
  62. Connect the negative battery cable.
