Are there any SIR DTCs set?

Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - SIR

Go to Step 3

  1. Close the passenger door.
  2. Do not connect the passenger seat belt.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. The passenger seat belt indicator flashes.
  5. The air bag indicator displays ON.
  6. The seat belt indicator goes out when the seat belt is fastened.

Does the seat belt warning system operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 4

  1. Sit in the passenger seat.
  2. Buckle the passenger seat belt.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Test for ignition voltage at the passenger seat belt indicator control circuit at the passenger seat belt warning lamp harness connector. Refer to Circuit Testing .

Is ignition voltage present?

Go to Step 8

Test for ignition voltage at the passenger seat belt indicator control circuit at the instrument panel cluster (IPC) harness connector. Refer to Circuit Testing .

Test for ignition voltage at the passenger presence signal circuit at the IPC harness connector. Refer to Circuit Testing .

Test for ignition voltage at the passenger presence signal circuit at the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) harness connector. Refer to Circuit Testing .

Inspect for a poor connection of the harness connector at the passenger seat belt indicator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
