Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement FWD

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any power steering fluid.

  2. Object Number: 850356  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolt (4) from the power steering gear inlet hose (5).
  4. Important: A bracket retains the power steering gear inlet hose to the power steering outlet hose.

  5. Loosen the clamp that retains the power steering cooling pipe to the end of the power steering gear outlet hose (9).
  6. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Remove the gear outlet hose from the cooling pipe.
  8. Remove the pipe fitting (7) and the gear outlet hose from the steering gear (8).
  9. Remove the pipe fitting (6) and the gear inlet hose from the steering gear.
  10. Remove the bolt (3).
  11. Remove the pipe fitting (2) and the gear inlet hose from the pump.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 850356  Size: SH
  1. Install the pipe fitting (2) and the gear inlet hose (5) to the pump.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the pipe fitting to 44 N·m (32.5 lb ft).

  3. Install the bolt (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N·m (69.04 lb in).

  5. Install the pipe fitting (6) and the gear inlet hose to the steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the pipe fitting to 25 N·m (18.4 lb ft).

  7. Install the pipe fitting (7) to the steering gear.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the pipe fitting to 25 N·m (18.4 lb ft).

  9. Install the end of the gear outlet hose (9) to the cooling pipe.
  10. Install the hose clamp in order to retain the hose to the pipe.
  11. Install the bolt (4) in order to retain the hose to the steering gear.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N·m (69.04 lb in).

    Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  14. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  15. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
